The Lambs, Inc.^®

A variety of activities are held within The Lambs club on a regular basis; many available at little-to-no cost to members. All events are found in the Club calendar posted both in the members only areas of the web site and physically on the Club bulletin boards. At times these events are open to non-members when space permits. They include the following:

Low Jinks

Our popular weekly Happy Hour, or “Low Jinks,” usually on Fridays, is when members pack the Pub on 2M to have dinner, imbibe their favorite spirit, share their common spirit, and raise their spirits by watching or performing in our cabaret-styled open-mike show, which includes singers, comics and dramatic readings. Some Low Jinks feature themes such as a specific composer or year of composition, or for a given holiday.

Event Nights

The Lambs host an assortment of activities, ranging from author talks and book signings, recitals, film screenings, and more.

Readings

Our intimate ‘black box’ theater is active with performances, readings of plays, new musicals, concerts and recitals (on a new Steinway baby grand piano). Flexible seating allows for up to 65 people. Readings are not only presented by The Lambs, but by outside non-profit theater groups as part of the mission of The Lambs Foundation, which supports and encourages emerging talent and new theatrical works.

Luncheons

Sumptuous lunches, buffets or sit-downs, including wine, at modest prices, are periodically held where interesting guest speakers inform and entertain capacity crowds. Guests have included the late author and biographer Joan Peyser; Peter Kiefer, coordinator of the Fred Waring’s America Collection at the Penn State University’s Pattee Library; Sean Malone, President of the Ten Chimney’s Foundation (the estate of the Lunts); and the NY Local President of Screen Actors Guild and the NY Local President of AFTRA; actor Eddie Bracken (honored with a Shepherd’s Award); well-known comedian Pat Cooper has entertained attendees in our Solarium; famed pianist and arranger Peter Howard played, sang, and regaled stories in our packed theater space; Ted Chapin, President of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, talked of the original production of Follies; Academy Award winning actor Cliff Robertson spoke at a Shepherd’s luncheon where he was made an Honorary Member of The Lambs; Tony, and Grammy winning arranger-conductor Don Pippin shared his marvelous career and showed film footage from his private collection. Recent lunches featured Jim Dale and the late Ken Howard, and Tony winner Matthew Broderick – all inducted as Honorary Members.

The Wash

The Lambs occasionally holds outings – outside of its clubhouse. These events are often barbeques or other parties held outdoors and are called “Washes”. The name comes from the days when a shepherd would take his flock of sheep down to a nearby river or pond to wash them. Past Washes of The Lambs have been held at the Actors’ Fund Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, New Jersey, providing a barbeque and entertainment for residents.

Hosting

Occasionally The Lambs acts as host for events by other organizations, such as The Actors’ Fund of America or the Episcopal Actors’ Guild. One of these hosted events was the Stanley Drama Awards. We often host readings and other small productions by theater companies. Other groups meeting in our building include The Dutch Treat Club and Food For Thought.
