Akst, Paul

Colonel Paul Akst administered the military draft in New York City for many years including those during the Vietnam War. An Air Force officer, he was placed in charge of draft registration in New York in 1948. He was appointed Director of Selective Service in 1955. He passed away in Palm Beach, Florida in 1995 at the age of 83. More information on him can be found in his NY Times obituary. – RET
