Herbert Ayling (1853-1919) was a stage actor and light comedian who appeared in a few silent pictures.
He was born on September 28, 1853, in Boston, Massachusetts. Ayling was elected to The Lambs in 1899.
His stage credits begin in 1878 with Diplomacy. He worked steadily from the Gilded Age to the Jazz Age. In 1893 Ayers was in the cast of The Rivals with Sidney Drew and McKee Rankin. His last role on Broadway was The Lady of the Camellias (1918) for fellow Lambs’ member Charles Frohman.
In film, he was known for the silents The Richest Girl (1918) and Outcast (1917).
Ayling was married to Reina C. Wynan and Maria T. Madden. He died on August 28, 1919, in New York. He was 65.
