The Rev. Patrick J. Berkery, Ph.D., was elected to The Lambs in 1964.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb. 27, 1930. Ordained a Roman Catholic priest on Feb. 25, 1956, he received his Ph.D. from The Angelicum in Rome. Rev. Berkery was a parish priest in various Catholic churches in Connecticut.
He authored more than 20 books, including Restructuring Religious Life, a religious bestseller based on the teachings of the second Vatican Council and Pope John XXIII. He was instrumental in improving the training of priests as a major superior for theologians at St. Louis University.
Rev. Berkery died April 15, 2010, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was interred in Rhode Island.
