John P. (Jack) Blessington (1933-2024) was a television executive, educator, and author. He was elected to The Lambs in 1970 as a Professional member. After time away, he rejoined the Flock in 1997. He was a Life member.
Jack helped build Whitby School from 1960 to 1974; he was headmaster for 12 years. He consulted with schools and lectured about education and family life. In addition, he was executive producer for CBS Television producing interfaith religious documentaries and was awarded a local Emmy award.
Jack was the author of Let My Children Work! (1999). The book describes his revolution involved throwing out the whole ridiculous concept of homework, of tying home and school life together, or recommending TV as a learning tool, and of recognizing the home as the richest learning center available.
Jack held a Master’s degree, a Montessori diploma and has three honorary doctorates. Jack and his wife lived in Greenwich, Connecticut.
He died Feb. 27, 2024, at 90.
