Dwight David Eisenhower was elected an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Lambs in 1950, when he was president of Columbia. At the time, a group of Conservative members of the Club, led by Lamb Joseph S. Buhler, worked on the campaign to convince him to run for president.
Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961. During World War II, he was Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe and achieved the five-star rank as General of the Army.
Eisenhower resigned “with deep regrets” in a letter to the shepherd on Feb. 19, 1953.
