Friend Palmer Fitts (aka F. P. Fitts) was a grocer born October 22, 1822, in Danville, New York.
He was the founder of the firm of Fitts & Austin, later changed to Austin, Nichols & Co., Wholesale Grocers and Jobbers in Teas, Coffees, Spices, Syrups.
It is unclear when he was elected to The Lambs as what was called at the time a “Non-Professional” member. However, something occurred, because he was “reinstated” in 1883, meaning he may have been a charter member in 1877 or one of the earliest members from the era.
His wife was Mary Fitts. He sold his firm and retired in the 1870s.
F. P. Fitts died July 1, 1899, at his home in Manhattan. He was 77. He is interred in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.
