Madeline Cameron Gaxton (January 24 1897–May 15 1990) was a dancer. In 1917 she married longtime Lamb and Shepherd, William Gaxton, and was admitted as a member following his death.
She was born Madeline Seitz in New York. She teamed with her sister Dorothy Cameron as a duo dance act the Cameron Sisters, with Ned Wayburn, around 1912 and toured the Keith Vaudeville Circuit. She made her Broadway debut with Dorothy in Miss Simplicity in 1914.
Billed as Madeline Cameron she appeared in the film Maxim’s at Midnight (1915); performed as tandem team on stages at the Capitol Theaterand in Wayburn’s Town Topics of 1915 and So Long Letty (1916); mastered wide range of dance techniques from classical ballet to acrobatic dance to Russian tap dancing.
After her retirement from the team she continued to perform as specialty dancer in a variety of productions, including Hit the Deck (1927) and Follow Thru (1929). She also appeared in shows with her husband.
William Gaxton died in 1963. At a later date Madeline was offered Lifetime membership after The Lambs admitted women in the mid-1970s.
She died in 1990.
