Gill, Robert Stowe

Robert Stowe Gill was born on March 25, 1880 in Pennsylvania. He was an actor, known for The Turmoil (1916) and The Million (1914).

Gill was elected a Professional member of The Lambs in 1911.

He volunteered to serve in World War I. Captain Robert S. Gill, 18th Infantry, U.S. Army, “Displayed exceptional heroism during the battle of July 18-22, 1918 near Soissons. He led his company against the enemy with skill, courage and exceptional gallantry until he himself was mortally wounded.”

He died 23 September 1918 at American Red Cross Hospital 3, Soissons, France, of wounds received in action. Buried in Suresnes American Cemetery and Memorial, France.

Awarded the Silver Star, with palm, posthumously. The Lambs and The Players formed an American Legion post after WWI and named it for Gill. The Lambs has his portrait in the Clubhouse.
