Hales, Ethelbert

Ethelbert Dunlop Hales (1878-1933) was elected to The Lambs in 1917 as a Professional Member. He was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and began his career in the 19th century.

In the 1920s he played in the hit Rain for two years. As a playwright, he wrote Scotch Cocktail in 1915, and Lei Aloha, a three-act drama set in Hawaii, produced by Al Jolson in 1921.

Ethelbert D. Hales died of encephalitis on 26 Jan 1933 in New York, he was 54. His remains were cremated and returned to Wellington, and interred in Karori Cemetery and Crematorium.
