James Westerfield (March 22, 1913 – Sept 20, 1971) was a character actor who worked on stage (dozens of plays at the Pasadena Community Playhouse), in film and television. He was roommate to George Reeves, TV’s first Superman…and he was also a director and producer for the Greek Theater of Los Angeles. His work includes: On The Waterfront (1954), The Absent-Minded Professor (1961), Hang ‘Em High ((1968) and True Grit (1969). On television his work includes The Rifleman, The Asphalt Jungle, Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show. Westerfield won two New York Drama Critic Awards for his supporting roles in The Madwoman of Chaillot and Detective Story.
