Leopold D. Wharton (pictured on the right, his brother on the left) was a film director, producer and writer with 37 films to his credit between 1911 and 1922. With his brother, Theodore, an employee of Essanay Studios,, they formed Wharton Studios in Ithaca, NY, in 1915. Among their stars included a young Oliver Hardy, Irene Castle, and Lamb Lionel Barrymore. Their studio went into foreclosure in 1920. Ted went to Hollywood while Leo stayed in New York. He joined The Lambs in 1920, and died September 27, 1927, of cancer.
