Today, September 26th, marks the birthday of George Gershwin, the composer and brother of Ira. George joined The Lambs in 1924 (though Ira never did); 1924 was also the year when Gershwin’s magnificent opus Rhapsody in Blue on February 12th at Aeoloan Hall (just a short walk from The Lambs’ clubhouse, designed by Stanford White then on 44th Street. The extended jazz piece was commissioned by Lamb Paul Whiteman and performed with Whiteman’s orchestra. Gershwin is now one of more than 6,500 members of The Lambs listed in our roster.
