Today, September 26th, marks the birthday of George Gershwin, the composer and brother of Ira. George joined The Lambs in 1924 (though Ira never did); 1924 was also the year when Gershwin’s magnificent opus Rhapsody in Blue on February 12th at Aeoloan Hall (just a short walk from The Lambs’ clubhouse, designed by Stanford White then on 44th Street. The extended jazz piece was commissioned by Lamb Paul Whiteman and performed with Whiteman’s orchestra.
