Marc Baron, Shepherd of The Lambs ,along with new Lamb Maya Avisar, gave a brief talk on the remarkable history of The Lambs at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA)
The Lambs, founded in New York in 1874, is the first professional theatrical club, and the oldest professional theatrical organization in America . The social club had origins in London in 1869, and has had major impact on American Theatre for 143 years. Members of The Lambs were founders of the Actors Fund of America, ASCAP, Paramount Pictures, Actors’ Equity and Screen Actors Guild. Stalag 17 and Mark Twain Tonight first hit the boards at The Lambs, and Lerner and Loewe first met in Club’s Pub.AMDA celebrates more than 50 years as one of America’s premier conservatories for the performing arts, and is recognized throughout the industry for its rich history and tradition of launching some of the most successful careers in theater, film and television.
Fred Loewe left The Lambs Foundation a portion of his royalties to Brigadoon, and the Foundation remains active today supporting non-profit theater and education in the Arts. In 2017 the Foundation started its Scott Glascock Scholarship at AMDA, which includes two awards for tuition assistance plus a 1-year junior theatrical membership to The Lambs. Lamb Avisar, a 2017 scholarship recipient, talked about her experiences as a young member of The Lambs.
